Documentation
Monstrosity is a three-day larp that offers you the freedom to play a monster as realistically as you like, using advanced risk controls to protect you and the other participants. Our "tools, not rules" philosophy empowers you to play as you wish, while our emphasis on active and continuous consent promotes respect and communication amongst all participants. The result is a vampire larp where you can tell your bloody and erotic story in an environment of trust and mutual respect.
Monstrosity: West Coast is a variation on our full runs of Monstrosity, adapted to run in a special location in San Francisco. While closely aligned with our runs in Atlantic City, we will make alterations to the design necessary for the locale. In addition, Monstrosity: West Coast will be purposefully marketed to larp-adjacent communities, including members of the San Francisco BDSM community.
Note - While the information contained on the rest of the website is useful, if you find something that contradicts anything on this page, the information here is correct. You can also see Design Alterations, below.
Content Notice
Monstrosity is an erotic horror larp that includes situations of violence, non-consent and death; as a participant, you can expect to encounter (and participate) in situations with nudity, sexual activity, fake blood, realistic portrayals of violence, the presence of alcohol and the presence of objects that could cause physical harm. As a live event, you will be in close quarters with other people, and we ask you to consider your health needs and precautions as you consider this event. The physical activity of Monstrosity occasionally leads to soreness and/or bruising; please consider this in your post-larp plans. You must be at least 21 years old to play Monstrosity.
Description of Play
Participants will begin play in pairs: one vampire, one human. The two of you will play with about twenty other participants for three nights. The first night will be an out-of-role party where everyone gets to know each other, the second and third night will be in-role. In addition, you’ll have workshops during the day; during the workshops, you'll create the character you'll play during the larp and calibrate with other participants.
When the larp begins, humans will arrive ignorant of the fate that awaits them… they’ll think they’re either going to a sexy party or a networking event. The vampires soon reveal themselves, feeding upon the humans and revealing their fate: some humans might become vampires themselves, while the rest will be sucked dry by the end of the night. The only way to survive is to win favor with the vampires through their cruel games, and in the end, no one - vampire or human - leaves the party unchanged.

Time Commitment
This is a three-day larp, designed to fully prepare you to play with little work before you arrive. We do have three online events prior to the larp to help set expectations. We ask you to make at least one of these three events.
-
Once accepted into the larp, we’ll schedule a 30-minute “Two-On-One” with you, your partner, and an organizer to explain more about the event.
-
We’ll schedule a 60-minute online discussion for both humans and vampires.
-
We’ll have one full cast hang-out prior to the event to get to know each other.
Once you arrive at the larp, we ask you to respect everyone’s time and attend all parts of the event. This will include the out-of-role welcome social the first night at 2000. Each day before we play, you can expect up to three hours of workshops to help prepare you for the night. Assume you’ll be busy between 1230 to 1700 for scheduling purposes. The larp itself starts at 1930 each night and ends shortly before midnight. We have no planned activities for the last day other than an opportunity to check-in with the staff and check the lost & found area.
Sign-Ups
Monstrosity - West Coast uses the same Invited/Accepted/Partnered process as our full runs. To apply, you have to be invited by either an organizer or a previous participant.
In order to promote participation from outside the larp community, we have two community organizers who will be vetting interested people. The best way to get an invite is to go to our Discord and introduce yourself; someone will likely reach out to you if you don’t know anyone there. Some notes on applications:
-
Applications will open on August 4 and close on August 28.
-
You can sign up with or without a partner.
-
There are 30 spots available for this run.
Early Bird Option
All participants accepted to Monstrosity: West Coast will be eligible for an Early Bird ticket to one of our full runs of Monstrosity in November 2027. Here’s how the Early Bird option works:
-
You and your partner are entitled to purchase one spot in a full run in November 2027, with a partner. This means you can both attend together, or one of you can attend with a different partner.
-
Early Bird spots will cost $1,800 and cover two people. Please note that this is a 10% discount from the full run price (expect the full run to cost $1,000 per person). They will be first-come, first-serve.
-
Each full run has up to 12 spots reserved for Early Bird tickets. You’ll be assigned to your priority of runs in order of ticket purchase.
-
We will have a payment plan option for Early Bird tickets.
No Accommodations or Meals
Monstrosity: West Coast does not include any accommodations or meals. Please plan transportation, meals and a three-night stay in San Francisco.
Travel
Our venue is in the SOMA neighborhood of San Francisco; the exact address will be provided to accepted participants. Travelers should plan on arriving at the venue in San Francisco by 2000 on Thursday. The last activity will end late Saturday evening.
Discretion
Discretion is important to everyone involved in Monstrosity. If you participate, we ask you to trust that no one involved will discuss details of the larp that could cause harm, and we trust you to refrain from doing the same.
What sort of details can cause harm?
-
Sharing the names of people who participate with anyone who hasn't played.
-
Discussing specific activities that occurred without the permission of the people involved.
-
Taking any photographs during the events.
Please see our article on Discretion for more detailed information.
Accessibility
We strive to make Monstrosity as accessible as possible, and we ask that you share any questions or concerns you may have with us - you’re the expert on your needs. If you require reasonable accommodations, you’ll have the opportunity to request a consultation as part of the application. This will not affect your application; we’re committed to supporting all reasonable accommodations and will coordinate with you after you join the cast.
Design Changes
Monstrosity: West Coast has the following design changes from previous iterations of the larp:
-
This run will not include significant scenic elements (i.e. large alterations to the venue); the venue was selected for its aesthetic suitability.
-
Certain technical elements (specific props, lighting, etc) may be changed due to logistical limitations.
We will strive to inform all participants of changes from previous iterations. At the time of the larp, Monstrosity will have been run 11 times including playtesting, previews, variations and full runs. If you’re interested in the information about those runs - most of which will apply to Monstrosity: West Coast - you can begin exploring the full site here.
Application
Filling out the application takes 10 to 20 minutes; we recommend you review the application questions to make the process go smoother.
If you wish to apply to multiple variations of Monstrosity in 2027, you can apply for all of them with a single application. Applications open August 4 and close August 28.
